• A permanent resident is someone who has been given permanent resident status by immigrating to Canada, but is not a Canadian citizen.
• Permanent residents are citizens of other countries
When do you lose your permanent resident status?
• You do not meet the residency obligation, for example if you are outside of Canada for more than three years within a five-year period.
• You are convicted of a serious crime. In addition to losing your status, you also risk being deported from Canada.
• You also lose your permanent resident status when you become a Canadian citizen.
Express entry
• Express Entry is the fastest and most popular pathway to permanent residence for immigrants seeking a new life in Canada.
