Igniting Youth Creativity Project (IYC)

The Igniting Youth Creativity Project was a transformative initiative that empowered young people within the Weston- Mount Dennis (Ward 5) by providing a wide range of workshops, training sessions, and creative activities in the Keele Community Hub. Designed to encourage personal growth, creativity, and leadership, the project engaged youth in skill-building experiences that spanned various disciplines, from arts and music to practical certifications such as CPR and Food Handlers. By offering diverse opportunities, the project allowed participants to explore their passions, build confidence, and gain valuable skills that can be applied to their daily lives.

Throughout the project, the Keele Community Hub became a vibrant space for youth to connect, collaborate, and express themselves. The program’s success was amplified by strong partnerships with local organizations, City staff, and amazing facilitators, creating a network of support that will leave a lasting impact on the community. From the high participation rates to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the project has strengthened the Hub’s role as a vital resource for youth empowerment and development.

Additionally, we invite you to watch the final wrap-up video and read testimonials from youth participants and staff to see firsthand how the Igniting Youth Creativity Project has positively impacted their lives.

Hear from the youth:

“I had a great time learning more in the photography program and that it wasn’t just

about taking a picture. I had a good experience not with just learning and hands on, but

also connecting with some peers and getting to know some people.” - N.G

“The most positive thing I’ve learned from IYC programming is learning new things that I

can apply to my life in the future or right now. For example, DJing, I never really thought

I would learn how to DJ but I did, and I really liked it. And of course, dancing. Before I

joined the dancing program, I wasn’t very good, but after the program I started

becoming better at it and learning with my friends helped me get better but made it

more fun.” - S.D

“The most valuable skills I’ve gained while participating in IYC programs is

communication skills. Before I came to IYC programs it was harder for me to talk in front

of people, but as I came more and more participated, I felt more comfortable to speak

publicly.” - J.T
